Apps: Locale

23 May 2010 7 Comments

Locale dynamically manages your phone settings based on conditions, such as Location and Time. Never worry about your ringer going off in the wrong place or at the wrong time again. You can set it and forget it!

Locale lets you customize your phone’s settings based on your location. You could program the app to set your phone to vibrate every time you’re at your office, or set it to go silent when you enter the perimeter of your local movie theater.

With Locale, you create situations specifying conditions under which your phone’s settings should change. For example, your “At School” situation notices when your location condition is “77 Mass Ave,” and changes your ringer volume setting to vibrate.

With Locale’s advanced touch-screen interface, you’ll be set up in no time. Quickly define zones that are important to you using Google Maps and our own custom geocoder. Then share those locations with other location-aware apps on your phone!

Locale’s incredible location technology leverages GPS, Wi-Fi, and GSM positioning to determine the location of your phone. Although not all phones are equally equipped and not all location technologies have equal coverage, Locale gracefully scales back. Walking into a building with poor GPS reception? Not a problem.

With plug-ins from the Locale Developer Platform, Locale can do practically anything! We’ve already created plug-ins for Twitter and SMS, so you can send messages automatically when you get to work or maybe when you’re near your friend’s house.

When the criteria is met, we can change the certain settings:
Display – Changes the brightness and time-out of idle screen
Network – Switches Bluetooth and wi-fi on or off
Notification – Notifies you that the mode has changed
Ringtone – Changes the default ring-tone
Volume – Changes the volume of ringtone and notifications
Wallpaper – Changes your wallpaper

It is a smart blog. I mean it. You might have so much information about this issue, and so much passion. In addition , you know how to get people to rally behind it, obviously from your responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as huge as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
